| Here
are answers to questions you might have about me and how I work.
If you still have a question, send it to me and I'll answer it.
You'll find my contact information here.
Q:
Who are you and what do you do?
A:
I'm Brad Mager, founder and owner of Mager Marketing, Inc. I'm a
professional copywriter who specializes in direct response marketing.
My goal when writing copy is to help you make sales, generate leads,
and get more customers.
Q: What's "direct response" marketing?
A:
Sales letters, ads, and other promotions that are designed to generate
responses directly from the marketing pieces. This differs from
most advertising you see, which is simply created to generate "awareness"
of a company or brand. Direct response marketing can be measured
for its effectiveness.
Q: What can you do for me?
A:
I can help you determine the best approach for marketing your business,
then write the copy for whichever kinds of promotions are appropriate.
This can include sales letters, brochures, postcards, direct mail
packages, self-mailers, inserts and websites.
Q: What kind of stuff have you done?
A:
I have written everything from small postcards and self-mailers
to websites, long sales letters, and CD-ROM scripts. The kinds of
clients I've worked for include high tech, low tech, retail, services,
independent professionals, and large corporations. I've written
a brochure for a photographer, a website for a copper mining company,
and just about everything in between. You can see a partial list
of my clients here, and some
of my samples here.
Q:
I have a different product/service from what you’ve worked
on before, how do I know you can write for me?
A:
If I honestly don't think I can help you, I'll tell you. But I take
the time to understand your business and your target market. I'll
carefully study any materials you have, do some research on my own,
and interview the key players in your organization to get a good
sense of what you're offering and the best way to present it.
Q:
How do you charge for your writing?
A:
Since you're really buying my expertise and experience, I charge
by the project, not by the hour. Once I get an idea of what your
project entails and what your needs are, I'll give you a quote for
the project. Unless you make a change to the project, that's what
you pay.
I'll
admit, I'm not cheap, though I'm not the most expensive copywriter
either. If you're looking for bargain-basement prices on copywriting,
you'll have to try somewhere else. However, if you're prepared to
pay professional rates for professional service, then let's talk
about your project and I'll give you a firm quote.
Q: What’s included in your fee?
A:
Everything I need to do to complete the work to your satisfaction.
That includes consulting on marketing strategy, researching your
business, understanding your needs, writing the copy, and making
revisions.
Q: What are your terms?
A:
For first projects with new clients, I require 50% of the fee in
advance, at which time I'll start working on your project. After
submitting the first draft, I'll invoice you for the remainder,
payable within 30 days.
Q: How do I know I'll be satisfied with your copy?
A:
I guarantee you'll be satisfied with what I write for you, and if
not, just tell me what you don't like and I'll work on it until
you are satisfied. I want you to be so happy with my work for you
that you'll gladly recommend me to others.
Q: We're shopping around. Will you do a job on spec?
A:
No. I have plenty of work from clients who are happy to pay my normal
rates.
Q: Do you handle design, printing, and mailing?
A:
I specialize in writing sales copy and leave everything else to
other professionals, so I'm not a "one stop shop." However,
I can give you a lot of good suggestions about design and layout
of the piece, and I can work closely with your graphic designer
to make sure the layout and the copy work well together.
Q: Will you come work on-site on our project?
A:
Sorry, no. I work out of my office at home. I may travel for consultation,
but I do my writing here.
Q:
What do you think is the most important thing in writing effective
direct-response sales copy?
A:
To connect with the reader's hopes, wishes, needs, or desires. After
that, it's to make clear what your offer is and compel the reader
to respond.
Q: How do you pronounce your last name?
A:
"Mager" is pronounced with a long 'a' as in "may,"
and a hard 'g' as in "tiger." Similar to how most people
pronounce the name "Jager."
Q: What do I do if I want to hire you to work on a project?
A:
Just give me a call at 801-487-5654 or send an email
so we can set up a time to discuss your project in detail. Once
I get a good sense of what the project is, I'll send you a quote
and a letter of agreement, which will spell out what the project
entails, the time frame, and what I'll be doing for you. Once you
sign it and send me the 50% up-front fee, I'll get started.
